Moment - Ynglingagatan 1
Stockholm -
26 November 2011
- 22 January 2012
The non-commercial gallery Ynglingagatan 1 opened at a 16 sqm venue in Stockholm in the autumn of 1993. The driving force was a sense of frustration with the stagnating art scene. It rapidly became one of Sweden’s most important forums for contemporary art.
Participating artists
The gallery introduced countless international artists, relational aesthetics and interdisciplinary fusions of art, design and fashion. Ynglingagatan 1 was also a launching pad for a group of Swedish artists in the early days of their careers. The activities thus played an essential part in pioneering today’s globalised art scene.
The exhibition Ynglingagatan 1 is a chronological retrospective presentation of works from the gallery’s programme. The ambition here is to feature the works that were actually exhibited at the gallery, comparable works from the time, or documentations of exhibitions and projects.
With its aim of specifically highlighting the 1990s, the exhibition serves as a prism. Events, debates and lectures will also be held, further reflecting the thoughts and ideas that were current at the time when the gallery was in operation.
Curator: Thomas Ekström in cooperation with Fredrik Liew and Daniel Birnbaum
Moment is an exhibition series in which the works of art in themselves are deciding the location in the museum as well as the duration of the exhibition. It can run one day or many months, it can be a wall or many rooms.
