The Jewish Renaissance Movement in Poland (JRMiP) presents:
The Return from the Moon
|
Finissage and a new performance by Yael Bartana
Moderna Museet Malmö September 10, 7-10 pm
With one week left of Yael Bartana’s exhibition and Europe will be stunned Moderna Museet Malmö invites you to a finissage Friday September 10. Yael Bartana is back in Malmö with a new performance – The Return from the Moon – developed especially for the finissage.
The Return from the Moon is an experimental performance, an intervention and dialogue with the films presented in the exhibition, performed in German by Susanne Sachsse.
The performance is a ten minute long monologue in a loop, delivered by the fictional character Rivka, the ghost of return. Rivka has earlier appeared in the artist’s film Mary Koszmary, which is part of the exhibition, where the Polish leftist activist Sławomir Sierakowski referred to her in his speech when he was calling for the return of three million Jews back to their homeland - Poland.
Rivka exists in a dense intersection between different periods of times. Trapped in a maze of mirrors, unable to separate reflection from experience, she wonders whether we will be able to free ourselves from the chains of tragedy, from the sad fate of history.
Yael Bartana has during the last decade earned considerable international attention and acclaim. At the opening of the exhibition “and Europe will be stunned” at Moderna Museet Malmö on May 22 earlier this year, Yael Bartana was awarded the prestigious Artes Mundi Prize. The exhibition – which occupies the entire Turbine Hall – is her most comprehensive solo exhibition in Europe to this date. The exhibition lasts until September 19.
The performance premieres during the finissage at Moderna Museet Malmö on September 10, in the presence of the artist. It is performed in German and translations into Swedish will be available for visitors. The performance will also be presented on Saturday, September 11.
Finissage Friday September 10, 7-10 pm. Performace at 7.30, 8, 8.30 and 9 pm.
Saturday September 11, performance at 2, 3 and 4 pm.
