Within the framework of the lecture series KHMxMMM, Moderna Museet Malmö is visited by artist and choreographer Nikima Jagudajev who currently has an exhibition at Accelerator in Stockholm.

Nikima Jagudajev is a U.S.-born, Austrian/Uzbek choreographer based in Brussels and New York. Nikima’s process-based and collaborative practice examines social relations as spatial connections, exploring how we come together in fulfilling and considerate ways. Using the choreography of play as a framework, a world is being built, incorporating elements such as food, clothing, live music, a deck of cards, and secrets. Nikima refers to this as ‘the playground,’ where performers and visitors are involved in an open-ended game.

Nikima Jagudajev takes part in the IASPIS residency in Stokcholm, where they will continue expanding on the project called Basically, which is also part of the ongoing exhibition at Accelerator. They will collaborate with local artists on choreography, develop and record music, and work on a clothing line called Arcane Clothing. Basically has previously been presented at WIELS (2023), Enter Art Fair, Copenhagen (2023); Shedhalle, Zürich (2022); Bergen Kunsthall, Norway (2020-21) and will be shown at Accelerator, Stockholm, mumok, Vienna (2024), and Dhaka Art Summit, Bangladesh (2026).

Nikima Jagudajev has also exhibited at Material Art Fair’s Immaterial, Mexico City (2020); Centre d’Art Contemporain, Genève (2019); and MoMA PS1, Queens, NY (2018). Jagudajev studied at LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE and received a BA in Anthropology/Sociology (2008-12).

The lecture is a collaboration with IASPIS, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee´s International Programme for Visual and Applied Arts.
