John Melin, together with his partner, Anders Österlin, was one of the advertising gurus of the 60s and 70s. He became famous particularly for creating Moderna Museet’s first graphic profile. The ideas were John’s, the drawing, Anders Österlin’s, but they worked as a team and were actually called ”anden” and ”handen” – ”the spirit and the hand”.

This exhibition includes posters, books and catalogues as well as cardboard packaging and paper cartons – all unmistakable Melin creations. Among the catalogues are the catalogue for ”Hon” (”She”) by Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint–Phalle, the Andy Warhol catalogue and the remarkable ”The Machine”, which is in sheet metal for the exhibition of the same name which took place at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Worth special mention among the posters is one for Moderna Museet with a text printed in moist glue sprinkled with cress seeds. It was quite an experience to see it sprout, grow green and then wilt!
