Man Ray

4.9 2004 – 31.10 2004

Stockholm

Man Ray (1890-1976) is unquestionably one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. His idiosyncratic imagery and his experimentation in tune with the times resulted in a broad spectrum of work, from black-and-white photos to sculptural objects.

The Moderna Museet exhibition is showing a selection of legendary works by this seminal surrealist. The exhibition will reflect his photo-based work, fashion photography and the many portraits.

Chess Set by Man Ray

Man Ray was a passionate chess player. He made his first set of chess pieces in 1920, using objects that happened to be at hand. This chess set was used at the Movement in Art exhibition at Moderna Museet in 1961. The black moves were telegraphed by Marcel Duchamp from New York, and the counter-moves were performed by three other players. The game was to be seen as a kinetic work of art. Click at the link below and you can follow the moves day by day.
