Artists from all over the world present fragmented narratives about our time – about alternative facts, global politics, financial flows, natural resources, history and postcolonial theories – but also personal stories. See Hito Steyerl’s Sun Factory, Ibrahim Mahma’s installation of coffee and cocoa sacks, Otobong Nkanga’s black soaps, and Öyvind Fahlström’s gleaming gold ingots on purple velvet in World Bank, with a museum host or curator as your guide.

In the exhibition Manipulate the World, works by Öyvind Fahlström are linked to various artistic approaches, subjects and works by 28 contemporary artists. Several of Fahlström’s pieces relate to memory, historiography and power. The installation Dr Schweitzer’s Last Mission addresses the canonisation of the German-French theologian Albert Schweitzer, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his humanitarian deeds in Africa. Fahlström saw the world as a game, and ”manipulation” as a means of democratic participation in the creation of reality. In a series from 1970–71, Fahlström modifies the classic Monopoly game, turning it into a geopolitical playing field. Welcome to a guided tour where the exhibition curator Fredrik Liew presents Fahlström’s Monopoly game and contemporary art relating to the idea of reality as a board game. After the World Bank

Economics were a key issue for Fahlström, and his monumental installation World Bank was made in response to the World Bank meeting in Copenhagen in 1971. The work dramatises the economic relationship between Western superpowers and the debt crisis of the developing nations.  Welcome to a guided tour where the exhibition curator Fredrik Liew presents Fahlström’s installation and contemporary art in the wake of the World Bank.
