Everybody is a Photographer!

3.1 2012 – 19.2 2012

Stockholm

In June 2011, we asked the public to send us their pictures from everyday life. Six months later, when we closed the upload page, we had received nearly 7,600 images!

There have been many intriguing encounters between the uploaded images and the Moderna Museet collection of photography that was shown in the rooms featuring the exhibition Another Story. It becomes obvious how our way of seeing pictures is shaped by all the photographic images that surround us today. The technical and artistic development within photography in its 150 years of history was also reflected in various ways in the diversity of the photographs that were sent to Moderna Museet. Most of all, however, these pictures show what is important to us and what is closest to our hearts: our family, friends, nature. On 19 February, we start taking down the pictures. They will then be stored in archive cases for posterity. Perhaps, in 40 years, someone will take out these photos and look with curiosity and wonder at the Moderna Museet audience in 2011 and how they chose to share their lives in pictures. In the same way that we have been able to enjoy the art scene of 1968 through Carl Johan De Geer’s work CJ’s Photo Booth, which was featured in the current exhibition Another Story.

The photos will be on display at Moderna Museet until 19 February, but they can also be viewed on the image-hosting website Flickr, where we have uploaded all the photos.

Many thanks to all of you who shared your everyday lives in 2011 with us!
