Transformations

Malmö, 17.10 2015 – 31.1 2016

As part of the Bästa Biennalen! arts festival, Moderna Museet Malmö is holding an exhibition in a small format that allows visitors of every age to experience the astounding and limitless world of art. Coming into the museum’s Loading Dock is going to be like stumbling onto a clearing in a magical forest.

In art anything can happen. Transformations is a show of works that deal with transformation in a variety of ways—with ideas that suddenly take solid form. Klara Kristalova’s fantastical figures may not always be what they at first seem. In The Forest Is the Best Place, Alexander Calder turns a few bits of metal and wire into a rustling treetop of branches that move slowly in space. Or are we looking instead at the reflection of water lilies on the surface of a pond? In a video by Sam Taylor-Johnson, we see a dish with artistically arranged fruits that break down and transform before our eyes. It doesn’t matter whether a work of art is old or new, whether it is made with a paintbrush or a video camera. In art, the present is reflected in the past.
