FAQ
ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS TO THE USE OF PRESS IMAGES AVAILABLE IN THE PRESS ROOM?
There are two types of images in the Press Room. These are their terms of use:
1. Images related to an exhibition
Press images related to specific exhibitions are freely accessible prior to and during the respective exhibition periods. You are only permitted to use them when reporting on an exhibition or Moderna Museet’s activities.
The images must always be accompanied by the credit line including the title of the work, the artist’s name and the date, as well as copyright information where applicable. (All the necessary information can be found in conjunction with each of the press images in the Press Room.)
Images of artworks are protected by Swedish copyright law (SFS 1960:729). Press images of artworks by artists who are members of the Swedish copyright organisation Bildupphovsrätt i Sverige are provided by Moderna Museet through the museum’s own agreement with the organisation. This also applies to other press images of artworks whose copyright lies with other organisations, foundations or persons.
In short, Moderna Museet has guaranteed the free use by the press of the images available in the Press Room.
See the next question regarding the cropping of press images.
2. Images of our buildings and interiors
Press images of our buildings and interior views can be used freely when reporting on or informing about Moderna Museet.
See the next question regarding the cropping of press images.
MAY I CROP PRESS IMAGES?
We have three different answers depending on the type of press image in question.
1. Images of individual artworks
No. Images of individual artworks may not be cropped or in any way distorted, neither in print nor in digital publication, without our express permission.
2. Installation views (views of exhibitions at Moderna Museet)
Yes, but there might be exceptions. You are permitted to crop installation images – views of exhibitions at Moderna Museet Moderna Museet to fit a certain format, (but they may not be distorted in any other way). In the case of individual exceptions to this rule, it is clearly stated in the image information. If you crop an image you always have to state this in the publication.
3. Images of our buildings and interiors
Yes, but there might be exceptions. You are permitted to crop images of interior or exterior views of Moderna Museet to fit a certain format (but they may not be distorted in any other way). In the case of individual exceptions to this rule, it is clearly stated in the image information. If you crop an image you always have to state this in the publication.

THE IMAGE I AM LOOKING FOR IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE PRESS ROOM. HOW CAN I GET HOLD OF IT?
If you are looking for and would like to reproduce/use an image of an artwork in Moderna Museet’s collection or a previous exhibition, please contact Bildbyrån/ Rights and Reproductions and inform about of the intended use of the image.
E-mail: bildbyran@modernamuseet.se
If the image you have ordered from Bildbyrån/ Rights and Reproductions is marked “BUS” or “Bildupphosvrätt i Sverige”, you yourself are responsible for seeking permission to use the image from the Swedish copyright organisation Bildupphovsrätt i Sverige. This is usually a very speedy process. Bildupphovsrätt i Sverige is also associated with equivalent international copyright organisations and can guide you in the process.
