How does it work?

Come to Kafé Sisko’s outdoor seating area — with or without a dog. Find yourself a seat. Observe and draw the dogs as they move around or pause in various poses, standing, sitting, or lying down for different lengths of time. You’ll be drawing independently, but if you’re a beginner, we’ll share some tips and tricks to help you get started. Everyone is welcome, regardless of previous life drawing experience. You draw on your own, without instruction.

Bring your own materials

We recommend pencils, colored pencils, or crayons. Since seating is partly without tables and outdoors, a firm drawing pad or board is helpful. If you prefer to draw digitally, feel free to bring a tablet.

About life drawing

Life drawing is a classic way to train your eye and drawing skills — almost like an artistic workout. The word comes from the French “croquis,” meaning “sketch.” It’s characterized by quick sketches of a live model and helps develop your sense of form, volume, proportion, and balance.
