Eglė Budvytytė: Choreography for the Running Male
In Eglė Budvytytė’s mobile performance a group of men jog a route through the city. As they trace a path in unison, they carry out choreographed gestures relating to emotions ranging from shame to seduction, along with sequences referencing militaristic action. Here they hide their faces in the folds of their clothing; they sit daintinly, hold hands or crawl through the grass. The work investigates notions of socialized behavior that infiltrate public consciousness and, as an extension, public space.
Khamlane Halsackda: An experiment in learning Swedish
For the performance An experiment in learning Swedish—which will be carried out during the opening of the exhibition, Halsackda plans on having a meeting of sorts with the audience. The dancer, who is not a native Swedish speaker, will attempt to learn words in Swedish given to him by the public. This however is not going happen by the usual means of listening and then repeating, instead, Halsackda will try to deconstruct into rhythms the meaning of the words given to him and improvise an interpretation of them. A learning through physical resonance rather than by the usual techniques involved in language learning.
