As a tribute to spontaneity and individual expression in dance, the piece delves into the power of community and participation through the timeless line dance “The Electric Slide.” As an audience, you are welcome to join in if you feel like it and when you are ready. You participate in your own way, based on your own conditions and abilities.
The piece is a further development of the process and concept used in the work “Sammankomst” (Gathering), which premiered at Malmö Sommarscen in 2024.
About Maria Naidu
Maria Naidu is a multifaceted performing artist whose career spans several disciplines within dance and theatre. She trained at the Ballet Academy in Gothenburg and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City.
Naidu made her debut as a dancer in 1987, as a choreographer in 1989, and in 1991 she became a full-time member of the New York-based dance company Jennifer Muller/THE WORKS. After 13 years in NYC – eight of them with THE WORKS – she returned to Europe to pursue her own creative path. She is based in Malmö since 2002.
Her artistic work is rooted in a deep passion for dance, a strong belief in its boundless communicative power, and is infused with curiosity and joy. Her works have been presented in 14 countries across five continents, and she has also choreographed for both theatre and opera.
Since returning to Europe, she has participated in a wide range of performing arts productions directed by others, and has worked as a rehearsal director at NorrDans and later at Carte Blanche in Norway.
