The Moderna Exhibition 2010 is a fresh contribution to the debate on Swedish contemporary art. The exhibition is a follow-up of the 2006 edition, and our ambition is to continue to provide a forum for generous and inclusive discussion of recent developments in studios, offices, workshops, art institutions and other places where artists are active today.
The Moderna Exhibition 2010 does not feature any specific, overall theme or common denominator. Differences and disparities are just as significant of the perspective we want to convey of Swedish contemporary art, as are the encounters, similarities and contexts presented in the exhibition. However, our research was based on a few fundamental questions: What is it like living in Sweden today? How is society reflected in different artistic practices? What other contexts appear to be relevant? What is the role of contemporary artist? Is it even possible to talk about “Swedish contemporary art” in an increasingly globalised world? And if so, what does it mean?
