The Juste Debout finale will be held in Paris on 4 March. At Moriskan in Malmö the nordic representatives will be chosen 9–10 February.
There is a clear connection between the street-dance competition Juste Debout and Moderna Museet Malmö’s ongoing experimental art project PUBLIC MOVEMENT, where body and movement are in focus.
During the week of the competition, Moderna Museet Malmö will present two films. The celebrated documentary Martha & Niki will be shown at Moderna Museet Malmö followed by a talk in which Niki Tsappos will participate. In the documentary we will meet Martha Nabwire and Niki Tsappos before and during the Juste Debout finale in Paris 2010.
In the competition weekend the 9–10 February, the video Paralyzed by the swedish artist Klara Lidén, part of the exhibition PUBLIC MOVEMENT at Moderna Museet Malmö, will be moved to Moriskan. In Paralyzed Klara Lidén challenges both the environment’s expectations on her behavior and her own inhibitions. Meanwhile, the work also raises questions about what really constitutes good art, dance, and music. Who really qualifies as a dancer? Who is accepted as an artist? Through her wild movements, Lidén wants to highlight how social norms have a paralyzing effect on both people and societies.
