“Home” is a philosophical concept but also simply a basic human need. In today’s world, the destruction of home takes many forms, and the crisis related to it are exacerbating. The battle for home is an individual strife as much as it has become a collective dilemma. How architecture can be responsible for the loss of home and what does this loss mean to us, not only as nations but as humanity? This lecture will address this question while examining the conflict that took place in Syria in 2011 through the architectural lens, which ideally will offer a better understanding not only of our choices in the built environment but also of our shared realities and futures.
