Malmö

Opens in 320 days

Estonian artist Anu Põder (1947 – 2013) explored the fragility and complexity of life and the body in her sculptures. In contrast to many of her contemporaries, she worked primarily in plastic, wax, fat and textiles – materials that are allowed to live their own lives, transform and break down over time.

Spanning three decades, the exhibition follows Põder’s artistic development from the years under Soviet occupation to the period after Estonia’s independence, and shows how her focus gradually shifted from the corporeal and ephemeral to commentaries on consumption and capitalism.
Moderna Museet’s exhibition is one of the few solo exhibitions of Anu Põder to be held outside Estonia. In addition to several of her most significant works, the exhibition also includes drawings never shown before. After the presentation in Malmö, the exhibition will continue to Moderna Museet in Stockholm, where it will open in the spring of 2027.

Curators: Andreas Nilsson, Moderna Museet Malmö and Jo Widoff, Moderna Museet Stockholm.

The exhibition is shown in the galleries on floor 2
