Beginning in writing, then unfolding as dance, drawing, film, and sound, Cally Spooner’s work approaches choreography as the dynamic relations between bodies, space, time, and the elements.

Rooted in her sociopolitical philosophy training, in the liveness of microlocalities, and in interruptions from everyday life, Spooner explores how digital and governmental hegemonies compel us to perform, then asks: how might we move differently?

Spooner’s talk will be shaped by “A Hypothesis of Resistance” (Mousse, 2024) a five chapter book in which she moves transversally between cultural, psychological and ecological scholarship, and daily life. Matters of fact and matters of concern meet and collide to expand on “liveness” as a refusal to settle. She then intends to jump out of the book into an uncharted convergence (typical of how she works) between an overgrown proliferation of grief in a home and its garden, Mike Kelley un-working his work in 1981, and an entropic wilderness where the Alps meet the sea.
