Bus trip to Benarp

6.6 2026

Malmö

Join us for a bus tour to Benarp, home of Torsten Andersson. The artist would have turned 100 on 6 June – we are celebrating with a visit to “Solförrådet”, a lecture by Magnus Bons, and refreshments with drinks and light snacks.

On 6 June Torsten Andersson would have turned 100 years old – and all of Sweden will be flying the flag for one of our most distinctive artists. Between 11.00 and 16.00, the doors to Benarp will once again open for a long-awaited open house after several years’ hiatus, arranged by The Torsten Andersson Foundation.

At “Solförrådet”, the exhibition “Torsten Andersson 100 Years!” will be on view, and at 13.00 Magnus Bons will give the lecture “Torsten Andersson and the Dream of a Place” beneath the great maple tree.

Refreshments and light snacks will be served. Come closer to the person, the myth, and the art at the very place where it all began. A warm welcome to Benarp.

About Torsten Andersson

Torsten Andersson was born on 6 June, 1926, in Östra Sallerups parish and died on 30 May, 2009, in Hörby parish.

He studied, among other places, at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, where he was appointed professor in 1960 at a remarkably young age. In 1966, after attempting to reform the teaching program, he left his professorship and moved to Benarp in Hörby Municipality.

For many years he stopped painting altogether, but in the 1970s he returned to art. In the 1990s, he donated around twenty large-scale paintings to Malmö Konstmuseum, which now holds the foremost collection of his work.

Torsten Andersson received the Carnegie Art Award twice. In 1997, he was also awarded the Schock Prize in the visual arts.
