The Beast in the Garden

Lecture with Stefan Ingvarsson

19.10 2024

Malmö

A talk about how culture and history form the very core of Russia’s ten-year-long war in Ukraine.

On the occasion of the exhibition “The Fantastic and Horrific – Maria Prymachenko and Works from the Moderna Museet Collection”, we invite you to a lecture with Stefan Ingvarsson. Ingvarsson is an analyst at the Center for Eastern European Studies at the Institute for Foreign Policy, cultural writer and former cultural advisor at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow 2015 – 2020.

The lecture is based on the attack on the museum in Ivankiv and other attacks on museums and cultural heritage in Ukraine. Ingvarsson talks about how cultural heritage, art and public monuments are used in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. He connects with the works of Maria Prymachenko and their role in the identity building of Ukraine as a society and their fate during the ongoing war.

The lecture is part of Forbidden Culture Week.
