About Vivian Suter and the exhibition

The exhibition “I Am Godzilla” is Vivian Suter’s first in Sweden and presents over 350 works, many of which are being shown for the first time. Suter, born in 1949 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, grew up in Switzerland and has been living in Panajachel, Guatemala, since the early 1980s. Her work is characterized by a physical and spontaneous process in which nature serves as both inspiration and co-creator. Traces of leaves, twigs, and rainwater blend with the semi-abstract motifs in both muted and vibrant colors.

Suter’s paintings fill the Turbine Hall in a free and non-hierarchical manner, acting as an extension of the artist’s own surroundings in Guatemala. Vivian Suter has previously exhibited at institutions such as Vienna Secession, Kunstmuseum Basel, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, and Documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel.
