In a time of conflict, violence and political upheaval, unrest in society is increasing. The climate crisis and ongoing conflicts, both in Europe and globally, reinforce the feeling of uncertainty about the future. At the same time, a strengthened defence is often highlighted as crucial for society’s resilience. But what is the role of culture in this? Can art help strengthen individuals and societies in times of crisis?
In this conversation, cultural workers and politicians share their experiences – from historical and contemporary perspectives in Ukraine, to Österängens Konsthall’s work for local cohesion, and the political visions for art and culture in Sweden.
The conversation is organized by Moderna Museet in collaboration with Bildkonst Sverige.
Participants:
Kristina Axen-Olin, teacher and member of the Swedish Parliament’s Committee on Cultural Affairs, representing Moderaterna (M)
Johanna Linder, managing director of Österängens Konsthall, Jönköping
