In this verdant park, the trees cast long shadows. Sheltered by the foliage, men are gathering for fleeting moments of intercourse and intimacy.

From quick encounters in the woods with Salman Toor to Gösta Adrian-Nilsson’s kaleidoscopic coding of his uniform-fetischism, via politics, everyday life and mourning. Come along on a guided tour of same sex desire with the Cultural Studies Scholar Emil Åkerö.

Art has always had to relate to its surroundings, and a norm-defying desire or gender expression has had to be masked, codified or armoured with courage in the public sphere. Based on the exhibitions ‘Pink Sails – Swedish Modernism in the Moderna Museet Collection’ and ‘Seven Rooms and a Garden – Rashid Johnson and the Moderna Museet Collection’, we examine and explore Moderna Museet’s collection and look at art concerning same-sex desire with Cultural Studies Scholar Emil Åkerö.

In the guided tour we will look at modernist artworks from the early 1900s to 1940, as well as international modern artists and more contemporary motifs.
