Easter Break: Art up the Walls!

Create a shared story

26.3 – 29.3 2024

Malmö

During the Easter break, we will try creating art using the same techniques and materials as Khaled Hafez, one of the artists featured in the exhibition “Unhealed”. In the workshop, a large collaborative artwork is taking shape.

Using recycled, simple materials and an almost monochromatic colour scheme, we will create a shared narrative that evolves over the Easter break. What happens when we are limited to just a few colours? Does the story become clearer? What emerges when the colours recede?

We will line the walls of the workshop with long strips of corrugated cardboard. We’ve stocked up on plenty of recycled materials, such as coffee filters, paper bags, and pieces of cardboard. These are the same materials that make up Khaled Hafez’s artwork “Illustrated History of the Mundane: Military Industrial Complex.” He has created a collage narrative spanning two walls in the exhibition, reminiscent of the ancient Egyptian alphabet hieroglyphs.

The artwork depicts increased militarization and war in the world but maintains a humorous tone. You’ll get to try the same method Khaled uses when gluing. He glues wet-on-wet with “acrylic medium gel” applied with a brush. He says it’s better than any other glue!

Throughout the Easter break, the narrative will unfold, and in the end, we will have collectively created a large artwork – a shared collective story.
