Prisma Palestine – “I sleep with a seed under my skin”

Poetry and translation in the age of violence

21.11 2024

Malmö

Under the title “I sleep with a seed under my skin – Poetry and Translation in the Time of Violence,” we are visited by Ord&Bild and Prisma Palestine. The evening will begin with readings of texts written by poets from Gaza – the texts will be read in both Arabic and Swedish.

Ord&Bild has been running the PRISMA PALESTINA initiative since spring 2024. They publish texts – conversations and translated texts – that are available for free on their website and that over time can form an archive of the exceptional contemporary times we live in. As part of this work, they introduce poets from Gaza.

This evening will begin with readings by some of these poets – the texts will be read both in Arabic and in Swedish. This is followed by a conversation about the work, the thoughts behind it, the selection of texts and poets and about translation as an act of solidarity. The title of the evening is taken from a line of poetry by the poet Hind Jodeh.

Texts by the poets: Haidar al-Ghazali, Hind Jodeh, Khaled Juma and Nimat Hasan.
Participants: Jasim Mohamed , Catharina Thörn and Jonatan Habib Engqvist.
