Special evening in REDOUBT

Slideshow – Sound Mix – Meet artist

13.5 2026

Malmö

Meet the artist John Skoog, the photographer David Skoog, and the curator Joa Ljungberg, who together will give us a glimpse of the work behind REDOUBT. Over a period of three years, photographer David Skoog has followed the reconstruction of Söderto fästning (Söderto Fortress) – a process that culminated in the work Svalebo, now presented in the Turbine Hall.

Field – Film – Turbine Hall

This special evening, centered on the exhibition REDOUBT, revolves around these three elements. How did the process unfold – from the field to the Turbine Hall at Moderna Museet Malmö?

The evening begins with a short introduction to the exhibition by curator Joa Ljungberg, in the presence of the artist John Skoog. This is followed by a slideshow presenting the entire process, from the first image – showing Ernst Skoog, John Skoog (artists), and Ita Zbroniec-Zajt walking across an empty field, determining where the structure should stand – to the final image, where the reconstruction is installed inside the Turbine Hall. The images are shown publicly for the first time and offer a sneak preview of the forthcoming publication on REDOUBT, to be released in 2026.

Photographer David Skoog introduces the slideshow. Afterwards, he and John Skoog will engage in a conversation and take questions from the audience. The slideshow is accompanied by a specially composed sound mix by John Skoog, featuring field recordings by Taco Drijfhout and Nora Øland, captured at the site where the reconstruction was built.

About John Skoog

John Skoog (b. 1985 in Kvidinge, Skåne) is an artist and filmmaker based in Copenhagen. After completing his studies at the Städelschule in Frankfurt (graduation 2012), he has worked with film, video, photography, and installation. His practice frequently returns to the region where he grew up – its people, machinery, rural landscapes, and twilight light conditions.

In his work, Skoog combines historical research and careful observation of everyday life with a poetic sensibility. His working process is characterised by long-term collaborations with people both in front of and behind the camera. Alongside his artistic practice, he runs the nomadic cinema Terrassen in Copenhagen and is a professor of film at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mainz.

Skoog is represented in the collection of Moderna Museet with two works: “Sent på jorden” (2011) and “Shadowland” (2015).

About David Skoog

David Skoog (b. 1957) is a photographer based in Kvidinge in northwestern Skåne, Sweden. Since 1980, he has run his own photographic practice, focusing on the production of photographic images and image series. Grounded in professional photography, his work operates in the intersection between documentation and artistic image-making.

Within artistic contexts, his practice has been considered in relation to questions of place, the materiality of the image, and visual narration, including through collaborations with John Skoog.
