About the artist

Ikram Abdulkadir, born in 1995 in Nairobi, Kenya and grew up in Rosengård in Malmö. Her parents are from Somalia. In 2015, she bought a camera and is a self-taught photographer. Since 2017, she has published selections of her images on the Instagram account @ikramianism.

She studied Human Rights at Malmö University and has worked as a personal assistant. Abdulkadir also works commercially with commissions for Adidas and Vogue. Her images have been published in Sakina Magazine and Paletten, among others. She has also portrayed figures in the Swedish cultural sphere, including Sara-Vide Ericson, Jonelle Twum, Seinabo Sey and Stellan Skarsgård.

In 2017, she was a finalist in the spoken word competition “Ortens bästa poet” with the poem “Fria fåglar”. Her poetry has been published in the anthology “Revolution Poetry” (2018) and in the poetry collection “Sannu” (2018) by Mariama Jobe.

Ikram Abdulkadir is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet, Göteborgs konstmuseum and Malmö Konstmuseum.
