Get insight into the museum’s behind-the-scenes work and how we care for and examine photographic works. Join a special guided tour of the exhibition “Brassaï – The Secret Signs of Paris” with conservators Krista Lough and Tanja Obradovic.

Based on the work of the French photographer Brassaï, Moderna Museet’s conservators Krista Lough and Tanja Obradovic discuss one of the most predominant photographic techniques used by Brassaï and still in use today, and how the photographs and materials have changed over time in relation to both historical and contemporary methods.

During the presentation, we take a closer look at a selection of photographs, exploring their surfaces, details and expressions. What can traces of time and use reveal? How do we distinguish between damage and what was originally part of the work? Through close study and visual aids, new perspectives emerge on how the photographer Brassaï worked with his photographs.

The guided tour offers a deeper understanding of the materiality of photography and the distinctive qualities that characterise older prints compared with later reproductions.
