Guided Tour

Is resistance a concept inherent in the very definition of art? Artist and art educator Kristoffer Svenberg takes you on a guided tour with the theme of resistance as a starting point. During the tour, we will see works by, among others, Outi Pieski and Öyvind Fahlström.

Öyvind Fahlström’s work “Sitting … Six Months Later, Version A” (1962) has been included in the Swedish cultural canon of 2025. But how did Fahlström himself relate to the canon of his time when he created the work and in what ways did he express resistance?

In Outi Pieski’s art, the aesthetics of resistance take on several expressions. The concept of resistance also has a strong position within the modern era of art history: partly through the avant-garde’s ideal of the autonomous and cross-border, partly through the pursuit of social and political influence through art.

During the tour, several examples, philosophical reasoning and central questions are raised – how does contemporary art relate to resistance today?
