A Kenyan maths prodigy, an algorithm shaking the world’s financial markets – and a fight for survival. “The Wall Street Boy” is a film about ingenuity, courage, and the high cost of innovation in the shadow of the global economy and power structures.

“The Wall Street Boy” (2023), with the subtitle “Kipkemboi,” tells the story of a young maths prodigy from rural Kenya who, using his understanding of natural patterns, develops a successful algorithm for the stock market. The fact that this simple farm boy manages to manipulate stock exchanges attracts the attention of international financiers and local authorities, forcing him and his girlfriend, Chepchirchir, to flee for their lives.

“The Wall Street Boy” explores themes such as innovation, resourcefulness, and the conflict between tradition and modernity, as well as the socio-economic dynamics of contemporary Africa.

After the film, there will be an interactive discussion on the film’s themes, artistic expressions, and connections to social issues. The conversation will be led by Alieu Njie and Thomas Löfqvist from CinemAfrica Next Generation.
