Winter Holiday Workshop – Shadows and shimmer

Create together!

22.2 2022 – 27.2 2022

Malmö

Inspired by Beate Wassermann, we create our own windows in the workshop! What do you see through your window, is it the view from your room or a world of shadows and shimmer of light?

Beate Wassermann’s paintings draw inspiration from both the mundane and the spiritual – two worlds she did not see as opposites to each other. She was interested in the balance and the imbalance between shapes, colours, darkness and light. In her paintings we find many semi-transparent shapes reminiscent of windows or openings. Is it how the light shines in through a window or perhaps openings to other dimensions she has painted?

In the painting Untitled (Ohne Titel), she covers almost the entire surface with one colour, but leaves transparent and square openings that become like small windows. In another work also called Untitled (Ohne Titel, 1993), most of the surface is covered with yellow, where left out bright shapes appear to be illuminated from behind.

What is the shape of your window, square or oval? Is it dark, light, transparent or opaque? In the workshop, you can create windows using cardboard, transparent plastic, tissue paper, coloured paper and paint. You can cut openings and cover them with tissue paper or plastic and you can even paint on your window, depending on which expression you are inspired by!
