A wounded dream

An artistic project that highlights experiences of migration

6.12 2014 – 11.1 2015

Malmö

On the Loading Dock the group exhibition “A wounded dream” will be presented. Through films, sculpture, painting, and poetry this exhibition aims to create cracks in established institutions, and to create a space for more than one truth. This exhibition is a collaboration between the project S.A.Y. conducted within Individuell Människohjälp and Moderna Museet Malmö.

A wounded dream is an exhibition that touches upon different experiences of migration but that also encourages visitors to turn the mirror around with the question: how am I participating in this? Are experiences of migration taking enough place space in society in general? whose knowledge has a value?

This exhibition is a part of the project S.A.Y. (Stories, Art, You) which started during the fall of 2013. S.A.Y. is founded upon participation and giving everyone the chance to be heard. This exhibition has therefore grown as a collective process where participants have had the chance to express themselves creatively or artistically through different media. During this process, the theme of the exhibition has evolved and in doing so, touched upon many aspects of freedom and lack thereof.

A wounded dream is about the pursuit of freedom and equality, about power, migration and racism and how all the events in the world are interconnected. It is about visible and invisible borders, absence and hope that become like wounds on our dreams. But it is also about the strength within those dreams and the possibility of change. A wounded dream also refers to the truths that have a space within established institutions and the public space, and which voices that are heard and which are questioned.

The dream is about never being reduced to just an experience or a category, which happens often in a society that racializes people, and classifies and categorizes knowledge and experiences. Different experiences are given different values and very different spaces.
