Welcome to an evening about a very special Brillo box. Meet Lisanne Skyler, who made the film “Brillo Box (3 ¢ off)”, in a discussion with John Peter Nilsson, curator of the exhibition “Warhol 1968”. Mixing humorous family legends with the history of pop art, this documentary traces the path of an iconic work from a living room in New York to the contemporary global art market.

About Brillo Box (3 ¢ off)

A Brillo Box plays the lead in the HBO Documentary Film ”Brillo Box (3 ¢ off)” by Lisanne Skyler, which is now playing in the Mini Cinema in connection with the exhibition. In 1969, Lisanne Skyler’s parents bought an Andy Warhol Brillo Box (3¢ Off) sculpture for $1,000. 40 years later, with Warhol’s reputation as a contemporary-art visionary long secured, the same piece sold for more than $3 million at a record-breaking Christie’s auction in New York. Blending a humorous family narrative with Pop Art history, ”Brillo Box (3 ¢ off)” follows this iconic Andy Warhol work as it makes its way from a New York family’s living room to the contemporary global art market.
