Today, the term “museum” includes an extraordinary variation of different institutions spread in all parts of the world. Through its long and fascinating history, the museum has touched upon almost any aspect of human experience, creation and knowledge. How then, do we today create an understanding of this institution that in itself claims to understand almost anything? What role can this historical institution have in rapidly changing, globalized and interconnected world?
”Museums of The World” is a project initated by the Ax:son Johnson Foundation that gathers researchers, experts, professionals and journalists for in order to create a dynamic discussion about the fundamental idea of the Museum and its historical developments and importance as well as to further the understanding of its influences upon knowledge production, culture and values. The project is a part of the Ax:son Johnson Foundation’s ongoing effort to further the dissemination of scholarly knowledge.
A collaboration between Moderna Museet and Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse.
