50 Years of Cultural Policy

In 2024, Sweden’s cultural policy turns 50. Listen to philosopher and professor Jonna Bornemark, professor Bengt Jacobsson, and Magdalena Malm, Secretary General of Bildkonst Sverige, in a discussion about what has happened to the arts since the introduction of the cultural policy in 1974 and how well it has kept pace with what the arts mean to people.

The organisation Bildkonst Sverige has recently released the report “Cultural Policy 50 Years – Where do we stand now? Artistic knowledge and political structures” (Kulturpolitiken 50 år – var står vi nu? Konstnärlig kunskap och politiska strukturer). Participating in the discussion are philosopher Jonna Bornemark, public administration scholar Bengt Jacobsson, both of whom have contributed texts to the report, and Magdalena Malm, Secretary General of Bildkonst Sverige. Fredrik Liew, Head of Exhibition & Collection and Chief Curator at the Moderna Museet, will also participate.

Participants:

Jonna Bornemark, Professor of Philosophy at Södertörn University, author. She has gained recognition for her book “Det omätbaras renässans” (2018) and other works addressing topics such as embodiment, measurability, interaction, and educational issues. For Bildkonst Sverige, she has written the text “Konstens samhällsförändrande kraft”.

Bengt Jacobsson, Professor at the The Academy of Public Administration, Södertörn University. For Bildkonst Sverige, he has written the text ”Kulturpolitik på avvägar”.

Fredrik Liew, Head of Exhibition & Collection and Chief Curator at Moderna Museet.

Magdalena Malm, Secretary General, Bildkonst Sverige.
