The Skeppsholmen Day 2024

14.9 2024

Stockholm

Welcome to open house on Stockholm’s most creative island! Activities will be offered by Skeppsholmen’s various organisations all day. Moderna Museet celebrates the Skeppsholmen Day with guided tours of the museum’s most beloved outdoor sculptures. Discover – or rediscover – sculptures such as “The Fantastic Paradise” and “The Four Elements”.

Around the Moderna Museet on Skeppsholmen there are sculptures by artists such as Beth Laurin, Björn Lövin and the artist couple Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely. Explore and learn more about our outdoor sculptures during a free guided tour.

“The Four Elements” (1961) by Alexander Calder came to the Moderna Museet as a mechanical, miniature model, small enough to be housed in a shoebox. A full-scale was built and installed on site, and now stands as a monument to modern art right in front of the museum. “Paradise” by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely was donated to the Moderna Museet in 1971 and has become a symbol of Skeppsholmen.
