Wounds
Between Democracy and Redemption in Contemporary Art
14.2 1998 – 19.4 1998
Stockholm
Following developments in art from the 1960s to present, the work of more than sixty artists is shown. The exhibition examines the changing nature of modern art over the forty years of the Moderna Museets existence as well as its wider relationship with culture and history.
As its title suggests, Wounds focuses on art which has been made at either personal or social points of friction, fragmentation or pain and which cuts through the smooth but also comforting surface of conventional culture. There is a related film and video programme. Guided tours and panel discussions are scheduled. An illustrated two-volume catalogue with specially commissioned essays by ten leading critics is avaible.
