Easter holiday: To discover what you can’t capture

Holiday Workshop

12.4 2022 – 14.4 2022

Malmö

Välkomna på påsklovsverkstad! Kom och arbeta kreativt med oss i Verkstan och skapa dina egna “flytande ljusbilder”!

Is it possible to capture a movement, or the air or the light? In this workshop we experiment with colours that float around in water, and we make marbling prints on paper in different sizes and colours.

We try to create patterns with different tools – a comb, a brush or why not by blowing on the floating colours? Once you have found an expression or pattern you like, you have to try to “capture the image” at the right moment! But is it really possible to completlely control the expression when you handle something as ephemeral as colours that foam around and floats away? Maybe we can find inspiration in what the German artist Wolfgang Tillmans says about his artistic practice;

What connects all my work is finding the right balance between intention and chance, doing as much as I can.

In the artwork Free Swimmer 180 (Freischwimmer 180), Wolfgang Tillmans literally captures the light by illuminating a light-sensitive paper in a dark room. Suddenly, the light, something that can not really be touched, has turned into something physical. An image reminiscent of coloured smoke or liquid light.

The artist balances between what kind of result he seeks and letting chance be a leading part in the process. Inspired by his work and way of thinking, we create “liquid light images” and associate around what we see in the unique images that arise! The artwork Free Swimmer 180 is part of the exhibition Conditioned Movement – works from the collection of Moderna Museet.

The Easter Holiday activity is in Verkstan
