Can art change the way we see the world? During the winter holidays at Moderna Museet, we explore how artists create and how different materials and techniques interact. In the Workshop, we create the machines and sculptures of the future!

An aeroplane and a cardboard box – how are they connected? Truls Melin’s red sculpture “Candidate“ (1989) stands at the centre of Moderna Museet’s foyer. It is an object for play and imagination, but also a symbol of function and usefulness. What thoughts, questions or memories does the work evoke?

GUIDED FAMILY TOUR: WINTER HOLIDAYS AT MODERNA MUSEET

During the guided family tour, we explore how artists create and how different materials and techniques interact. Together, we discover artworks featuring intriguing and mysterious expressions.

The ticket is valid for the entire museum, except for the exhibition “Late Picasso”, which has timed entry slots. Access to “Late Picasso” is subject to availability.

Create in the Workshop

In the Workshop, we invent the machines and sculptures of the future together. Draw two image cards from the Workshop Archive and let them inspire a drawing of a new future machine. What does it look like, and how does it work? Perhaps it will become an entirely new invention or an exciting work of art!

Holidays at Moderna Museet

Draw, paint or sculpt together! During the school holidays, Moderna Museet always offers exciting activities for children. You can usually join a guided tour with an art educator and then create your own artwork, inspired by the techniques of various artists. You can also create freely in the drop-in holiday workshop. Keep an eye on this page for more information about the holiday programmes!

Can’t make it to us? Get inspired at home by artists such as Siri Derkert, Eva Hesse, Hilma af Klint and Pablo Picasso! In the museum’s YouTube-serie ”Skapa som”, you’ll find tips on how to make your own artworks inspired by artists from the Moderna Museet collection.
