See the acclaimed documentary “Historjá – Stitches for Sápmi” from 2022, which portrays Britta Marakatt-Labba’s struggle for Sápmi and the existential and cultural survival of the Sámi people. Following the screening, Britta Marakatt-Labba and director Thomas Jackson will meet for a conversation about the film’s themes, reception, and significance.

“Historjá – Stitches for Sápmi” follows the Sámi artist Britta Marakatt-Labba and her struggle for Sápmi and the Sámi people’s existential and cultural survival. After several decades on the barricades for her people’s rights, with art as her weapon, Britta Marakatt-Labba and the Sámi people face their greatest challenge so far, climate change. It is an existential question for Sámi culture, which is entirely dependent on the Arctic climate for its survival.

After the film screening, there will be a conversation between the director Thomas Jackson and Britta Marakatt-Labba. They will delve into the questions and themes raised in the film and reflect on its reception, as well as its significance for Marakatt-Labba and the Sámi people.

“Historjá – Stitches for Sápmi” has been awarded at the Guldbagge Awards 2023, where it received the prizes for “Documentary of the Year” and “Best Original Music.”
