Paint with Maria Taube

Drop-in workshop

14.11 2020

Stockholm

Welcome to an open workshop for children and their parents on the theme “Paint in the spirit of Hilma af Klint”. We will roll out large pieces of paper on the floor and dance out lines and shapes that will be filled with vibrant colours. The workshop is led by Maria Taube, who has made a great impression on generations of museum visitors during her 40 years as an art educator at Moderna Museet.

About Maria Taube

Maria Taube has during her 40 years as an art educator at Moderna Museet, made a great
impression on generations of museum visitors. She is a strong presence in the world of children’s
culture and has pioneered innovative pedagogy in Sweden, in both schools and cultural institutions.
Several of her initiatives have set the precedent for how art should be conveyed to babies, children,
teenagers, and adults. Maria Taube shouldered the legacy of Carlo Derkert who started Moderna
Museet’s children’s programme in the 1960s and later became her mentor. She developed Carlo
Derkert’s dialogue-based pedagogy in various directions and has received several awards and prizes
during her time as curator at the museum.

Maria Taube has written several books, including two on art for children; “Hjärtats bilder” [Images of
the Heart”] (1993) and “Kärleken, döden, konst på Moderna Museet”[Love, Death, Art at Moderna
Museet”] (2002). A stand-alone book has recently been published which describes Maria Taube’s art
educational method and her work at Moderna Museet, “Den stora konstfesten” [The Big Art
Celebration”] (2020). Maria Taube is a freelancing lecturer and author since December 2019.
