Easter Holiday Workshop: on mission with Hilma…and with you!

Holiday Event

30.3 2021 – 5.4 2021

Malmö

Nature is amazing! And we are part of it. In the artist Hilma af Klint’s paintings we often find details from nature; shells, flowers, eggs. In her art we move from the small to the big, and in some of her paintings the whole universe seems to fit!

How does it really feel to hug a tree? What does the first flower of spring look like, and above all, how does it feel? On your missions with Hilma, you get to hug trees, among other things. You get to look at flowers and shells and look for patterns and straight lines in nature. You get to build, paint and move like the trees!

Inspired by nature and Hilma af Klint’s art, watch the films and do one, some or all assignments!

Maybe you get ideas for your very own assignment? Create your own assignment together with a friend or family member! And of all the materiasl you have collected – cut, paste and paint a collage!

We have made some films where our art educator, Maria, discovers nature in different ways. Join us on missions with Hilma!

Hilmas mission – Hug a tree!

Hug a tree! How did it feel? Tell each other, a friend or someone in the family!

The trees move both downwards, underground with their roots, and upwards with their branches extending up to the sky! Use your whole body when you imitate the movement of the tree – how it moves and grows.

Hilmas mission – Find a shape!

Try to find a shape in nature and create a pattern of that shape by painting or drawing it again and again and again.

Hilmas mission – The hand in the sand

Small grains of sand together create large beaches. Can you think of other small parts of nature that together form something bigger? Paint or build a sculpture with the small parts!

Hilmas mission – Horizon

Look for straight lines in nature! And use straight lines when creating at home. Here’s how: take a picture you already have. It can be a drawing that you have painted yourself or a photo that you have printed. Draw a straight line through the entire image. What happens? Does an “up” and a “down” suddenly occur? Drag another line wherever you want in the image, and then cut along the two lines. Rearrange the image so that a new unexpected motif or pattern emerges.

Hilmas mission – Find a flower!

Find a flower, perhaps the first of spring. Sit down and watch it for a long time. What do you see? Hilma was not only curious about what flowers look like but also how they feel. What do you think, how does the flower feel? Beautiful? Scary? Or maybe a little lovely? When you get home, paint the flower the way you remember it and how it felt to you!

Hilmas mission – Colours of Nature

Collect some of nature’s colours by picking up things you find on the ground, such as cones, grass, flowers and leaves. Then arrange them on a piece of paper and sort them by colour. Now you have created a palette with the colours of nature! Save the palette and add new colours during all seasons of the year.
