Stockholm

Take a deeper look into the 1980s and meet the artist Stina Ekman, in a talk with Anna Tellgren, curator of “Sleepless Nights – the 1980s in the Moderna Museet Collection”. Stina Ekman is one of many Nordic female artists highlighted in the exhibition, who rose to fame in the 1980s.

In 1985, Stina Ekman’s work “Gitter” (Lattice) was shown at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Hundreds of cube-shaped sculptures filled the walls and floor of the square space, giving Ekman her major breakthrough. The exhibition “Sleepless Nights – the 1980s in the Moderna Museet Collection” features a selection of pieces from “Gitter”, along with the monumental sculpture “The Groke” from the late 1980s, and several self-portraits.

Meet Stina Ekman in an artist talk with the exhibition’s curator, Anna Tellgren. Learn more about the 1980s art scene and conditions, and hear Ekman speak about her practice and works.
