Daniel Birnbaum will be appointed Director at Moderna Museet Malmö

The Swedish government has announced that Daniel Birnbaum will be appointed director of Moderna Museet.

Daniel Birnbaum is currently the director of, and professor at, Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany. Daniel Birnbaum, PhD, has an international career as a critic, writing for publications such as Artforum. He was previously an art critic for Dagens Nyheter, director of Iaspis, and curator and director of several major international exhibitions and biennials, including the 2009 Venice Biennale. Daniel Birnbaum will take up his new position on 1 November, 2010.

“It is with immense satisfaction that we have been able to recruit one of the world’s leading figures on the international art scene as director of Moderna Museet, one of our most important cultural organisations,” says Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth. ”I am convinced that Daniel Birnbaum is the right person to cultivate and promote this prestigious institution in the field of modern and contemporary art, both in Sweden and abroad.”
