The climate change intensifies, democracy is in decline, and the gap between rich and poor is widening. Why aren’t we rebelling? Welcome to the premiere screening of the documentary “The Society of the Spectacle”. Basing their film on Guy Debord’s eponymously-titled book, the directors Roxy Farhat and Göran Hugo Olsson attempt to capture our consumerist era.

Based on the author and director Guy Debord’s prophetic book “The Society of the Spectacle” (1967), Roxy Farhat and Göran Hugo Olsson enlist the aid of forgotten gems from the YouTube compost heap and popular culture references. The documentary “The Society of the Spectacle” reveals a contemporary world where our lives have been commodified and consumerism is the dominating religion.

The self-affirming society of the spectacle, where people are allotted either the roles of passive bystander or manipulated consumer – is not that exactly where we stand today?

Roxy Farhat and Göran Hugo Olsson will introduce their film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session, facilitated by Lena Essling of Moderna Museet.
