The Moderna Museet podcast: Karin Hermerén

Before a work of art is installed at Moderna Museet or leaves the Museum, it has to be examined by a conservator with a magnifying glass. Should anything break, the conservator comes to fix it. Karin Hermerén is the head of conservation at Moderna Museet, and in this podcast she tells us about her work on preserving a wide variety of materials. How, for instance, do you preserve a work such as Adrián Villar Roja’s sculpture made of sponge cake, marzipan and fudge?

As head of conservation, Karin Hermerén leads a team of nine conservators who specialise in paper, sculpture, painting and photography. Together, they preserve and repair all kinds of damages to art. But is there anything that is beyond repair?  Also, is it bad for a conservator to love her job too much?

Moderna Museet will publish ten episodes of the podcast in spring 2019. Opening music: “Walk on By” by Perro Del Mar. The podcast is in Swedish.
